Job Summary

Evaluate patient records and assign accurate codes to ensure quality control and reimbursement purposes. Abstract pertinent data from clinical records and review for compliance with recognized coding principles and department policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret medical record entries to identify diagnoses and surgical procedures.
  • Assign ICD-10-CM and AAAM codes in compliance with coding principles and department policies.
  • Identify patients for inclusion in the trauma registry and abstract data from medical records and other sources.
  • Perform AIS coding and Injury Severity Scoring.
  • Verify and correct data discrepancies by communicating with physicians and hospital personnel.
  • Enter accurate and timely data into the computer system.
  • Provide data and statistical information for performance improvement, trauma education, and research.
  • Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a high level of abstracting accuracy.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Formalized training in medical terminology.
  • Association for Advancement of Automotive Medicine certification within 1 year of hire.
Work Environment

Full-time regular position at Women & Children's Hospital.
