Trauma Registrar Coder

Evaluate patient records and assign accurate codes to ensure quality control and reimbursement. Abstract pertinent data from patients' clinical records and review records for reimbursement purposes.
Key Responsibilities- Read and interpret medical record entries to identify diagnoses and surgical procedures.
- Assign ICD-10-CM and AAM codes in compliance with recognized coding principles and department policies.
- Abstract data from medical records and other sources, entering it into the Trauma Registry concurrently and retrospectively.
- Perform AIS coding and Injury Severity Scoring.
- Verify and correct data discrepancies by communicating with physicians and other hospital personnel.
- Identify patients for inclusion in the trauma registry.
- Enter abstracted and coded data into the computer system accurately and timely.
- Provide data and statistical information for performance improvement, trauma education, and research.
- Ensure quality and accuracy of records for reimbursement.
- Maintain a 95% or greater abstracting accuracy rate.
- Promote positive customer service and a positive work environment.
- Participate in the Trauma Service's quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in related coding for an acute care setting.
- AAAM certification within 1 year of hire and maintenance of certification.
