Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Academic and Career Advisor to join our team in Graduate Student Services. As an Academic and Career Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic and career goals of our graduate students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to graduate students, including reviewing plans of study and submitting required forms to the Graduate School.
  • Resolve graduate student issues and liaise with entities on campus to ensure a smooth and successful graduate experience.
  • Support orientations for incoming graduate students and workshops for continuing students, helping them navigate the graduate program and achieve their academic and career goals.
  • Assist with annual graduate student orientations and periodic workshops, providing valuable information and resources to our graduate students.
  • Assist with ECE graduate student communications, including deadline policies, submissions deadlines, graduate student events, research opportunities, and other timely communications.
  • Assist with prospective graduate student on-campus and virtual recruiting events, helping to attract top talent to our graduate program.
  • Assist in the organization of graduate school information sessions for VT undergraduate students, providing them with valuable information and resources to help them make informed decisions about their graduate education.
  • Administration and recording of Annual ECE Graduate Student Evaluations, helping to ensure that our graduate students receive the support and resources they need to succeed.
  • Assist in maintaining the ECE Graduate Student Management Database for enrolled ECE graduate students, ensuring that our graduate students have access to the resources and support they need to achieve their academic and career goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience using data management systems such as Microsoft Excel and presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience providing administrative support to senior-level executives in a corporate or higher education environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
  • Experience working in a graduate student services or academic advising role.
  • Experience with graduate student management systems and databases.
