Job Summary

MAAC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Parent Bus Aide. As a key member of our transportation team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our young passengers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a Supportive Environment: Create a positive and nurturing atmosphere for children on the bus, promoting their emotional and social development.
  • Assist Bus Driver: Collaborate with the bus driver to ensure the smooth operation of the bus, including loading and unloading children, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Participate in Bus Evacuations: Assist in emergency situations, such as evacuating the bus in case of an emergency.
  • Support Special Needs Children: Provide individualized support to children with special needs, including assisting with special equipment and ensuring their safety.
  • Communicate Effectively: Develop strong relationships with parents, staff, and children, communicating effectively to ensure a smooth and successful experience.
  • Maintain Bus Cleanliness: Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized bus environment, promoting a positive and healthy atmosphere.
  • Enhance Parent Participation: Foster a sense of community and encourage parent participation in the transportation process.
  • Distribute Information: Effectively distribute notices, messages, and flyers to parents, keeping them informed and engaged.
  • Follow Program Rules: Adhere to established program rules and regulations, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all.
  • Attend Mandatory Meetings: Participate in mandatory meetings, trainings, and other events to stay informed and up-to-date on program requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Parent or Past Parent Experience: A current or past parent of a child in our program is preferred, demonstrating a deep understanding of our community and values.
  • Bilingual Skills: Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are highly desirable, enabling you to effectively communicate with our diverse community.
  • Basic English Skills: Possess basic oral and written English skills, allowing you to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and children.
  • Safety and Emergency Procedures: Develop knowledge of safety and emergency procedures, ensuring the well-being of our passengers and staff.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification: Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification, demonstrating a commitment to the health and safety of our community.

Health Status and Physical Demands

As a Parent Bus Aide, you will be required to undergo a physical examination, TB clearance, and a drug screen by a designated doctor or clinic. You will also be required to provide immunization records for influenza, pertussis, and measles, as required by state and federal regulations.

The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, sitting, talking, and using hands to handle objects or controls. You will also be required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl, climb or balance, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Background Clearance

All positions at MAAC are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion, and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

California State law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. You must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

Transportation

You must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC's insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
