Position Overview

The Aviation Service Support Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting the Aviation Department by undertaking various responsibilities related to the fueling, cleaning, and management of aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include: Within the framework of college policies and procedures, this role:

- Aids in the planning, organization, and coordination of fuel and oil services as well as aircraft parking

- Assists in the planning, organization, and coordination of aircraft washing and maintenance

- Accurately inputs data into aviation-specific software and logs

- Performs additional tasks as directed by the supervisor

General Expectations: Employees are expected to execute assigned tasks efficiently and competently while striving for continuous improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must recognize the comprehensive role of the community college and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Adherence to all college policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines relevant to this position is required.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience Requirements:

- Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Students on an F-1 Visa must maintain full-time enrollment with at least 12 credits per semester and six credits in the summer

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Familiarity with and ability to adhere to college policies and procedures
- Understanding of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Communication Commission (FCC) safety standards and regulations
- Knowledge of aircraft systems
- Proficiency with power, hand, and aviation tools and equipment
- Understanding of aviation terminology
- Skills in maintaining supplies and inventory levels
- Ability to utilize power, hand, and aviation tools and supplies
- Capability to relate to a diverse population and maintain composure in challenging situations
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with a professional demeanor
- Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and complete multiple projects with attention to detail
- Problem-solving skills to analyze issues, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions using independent judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, faculty, students, and the public
- Preference for aviation students

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Environment: The role is primarily conducted under general supervision in an office environment with climate controls and in a hangar or aircraft with varying climate conditions. There may be exposure to mechanical and chemical hazards associated with aircraft operation and flight. Availability for evening and weekend work may be required.

Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position necessitate: lifting, manual dexterity, and effective communication.

Medium Work:
Involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, while walking and standing are required regularly. Incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.

Mental Application:
Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are essential.
