Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Professional to join our team at Washoe County School District. As an Accounting Professional, you will be responsible for performing various professional accounting responsibilities, including preparation of reconciliations, preparing/maintaining accounting records and general ledger maintenance in a computerized accounting system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform research and analysis as required;
  • Prepare bank reconciliations;
  • Maintain accounts receivable;
  • Financial statement preparation;
  • Maintain various subsidiary ledgers;
  • Prepare and post journal entries;
  • Prepare schedules, costs analyses, and reports as needed;
  • Develop and maintain procedure manuals for the Business Office;
  • Monitor and document the accounts payable, fixed assets, and payroll systems for quality assurance and operational efficiency;
  • Provide training, support and analytical review of Student Activity funds, and prepare sections of the CAFR;
  • Post payrolls to the general ledger, transmit payroll check data to the District bank, work with payroll technicians to process payrolls, and process tax payments to the IRS.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university in accounting;
  • One year of experience as a professional accountant. Experience in governmental organization is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of: Principles of supervision; budgeting and budgeting control; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite computer applications; governmental accounting practices; pronouncements by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB); Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), National Committee on Governmental Accounting (NCGA), and Municipal Finance Officers Association (MFOA).
  • Knowledge of: Principles of supervision; budgeting and budgeting control; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite computer applications; governmental accounting practices; pronouncements by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB); Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA); OMB Circulars A-87, A- and A-; and Compliance Supplement for Single Audits of State and Local Governments.
  • Skill at: Analyzing and resolving problem situations; interacting effectively with a variety of professional personnel; communicating effectively; some functions in cash flow forecast and project projections; working independently with minimum supervision.
Physical Demands

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Environment

The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
