Arbor Energy is a pioneering company developing a scalable and low-cost approach to Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) based on modern rocket engine technology.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Process Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our novel BiCRS technology. As a Process Engineer at Arbor Energy, you will be responsible for developing and owning process engineering deliverables for modular process units such as biomass gasification, oxy-combustion, supercritical CO2 power generation, CO2 purification and liquefaction, and wastewater treatment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and own process engineering deliverables for modular process units
- Design Basis, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat and Material Balances (HMBs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Line sizing and line lists, Equipment sizing and specification of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, control valves, etc.
- Instrument specifications for common instrumentation like temperature, pressure, flow, and level
- Pressure relief load calculations and relief valve sizing
- Participate in a wide range of activities from conceptual studies through plant commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting
- Support process hazard analysis (PHA) and HAZOPs, conceptual and feasibility studies and supporting cost estimates, control narrative development, review of detailed piping and equipment design with multidisciplinary in-house experts, development of operating procedures, alarms review
- Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
- 4+ years of process engineering experience
- Excellent understanding of chemical engineering principles and broad understanding of downstream discipline requirements (mechanical, civil, electrical, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and deliver successful projects
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Hands-on field troubleshooting and/or operations experience
- Experience in power generation, gasification, supercritical CO2, or other high-pressure (100+ bar) system design
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
