Lead Teacher Position at The Rise School of San Antonio

Overview: The lead teacher plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the mission of Rise, which is to deliver exceptional early childhood education to every child. This position embodies professionalism, serves as a supportive partner for families, communicates effectively, collaborates deeply, coaches fairly, and demonstrates expertise in early childhood education for children of all abilities. The lead teacher reports directly to the School Director and oversees a teacher and a teaching assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Family Engagement and Community Relations: Strives to understand and appreciate family dynamics; fosters respectful and reciprocal relationships with families; assists families in accessing necessary community resources.

  • Acts as the primary liaison with families through lesson plans, regular updates, reports, and personal meetings.

Child Assessment: Leads the initial and ongoing evaluations of children, utilizing assessment data to inform instructional strategies and interventions; develops and implements Individualized Instructional Plans for students with identified challenges.

Instructional Practices & Child Development: Creates and sustains a learning environment that is universally designed, reflecting the diverse cultures, needs, and interests of students; employs evidence-based, developmentally appropriate teaching strategies tailored to meet the varied needs of learners.

  • Utilizes assessment results to craft engaging activities and weekly lesson plans aligned with the school’s curriculum;
  • Provides necessary adaptations and accommodations for individual learning needs;
  • Develops and implements Behavior Intervention Plans;
  • Ensures a safe and nurturing environment for all children;
  • Meets all daily care requirements for children (e.g., diapering, feeding, medication administration);
  • Facilitates transitions to subsequent educational settings.

Collaboration: Establishes and maintains cooperative partnerships with therapists and fellow lead teachers to enhance classroom instruction.

  • Implements strategies recommended by therapists and seeks additional support as necessary.

Mentorship: Supervises, evaluates, and mentors the teacher and teaching assistant, as well as university interns and classroom volunteers when applicable.

  • Conducts weekly team meetings to discuss student progress, reflect on teaching practices, and plan future activities.

Professional Standards: Adheres to program policies and procedures; oversees classroom safety and health; ensures compliance with licensing and quality standards; welcomes feedback and coaching from directors; maintains open and professional communication with the teaching team, families, and other stakeholders; upholds confidentiality of all children and families; presents a professional appearance and demeanor; demonstrates teamwork and a commitment to continuous learning.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree (or in progress) is preferred.

● Minimum of three (3) years of experience in special education, early childhood education, or a related field.

● Certification in Pediatric CPR and First Aid (or willingness to obtain certification).
