Job Overview

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for performing essential upkeep tasks to ensure that the hotel’s physical infrastructure meets quality and safety standards. This role encompasses the maintenance of the hotel’s facilities, equipment, and grounds. The Maintenance Engineer will execute repairs, conduct preventative maintenance, and ensure all areas of the hotel are well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional service in all interactions with guests and clients, adhering to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards.
  • Identify and report hazardous situations, emergencies, or security threats to management.
  • Complete various work orders, including but not limited to replacing ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs, and performing repairs on plumbing, toilets, sinks, and kitchen equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain the efficiency of equipment and electrical systems, making minor repairs to ensure optimal operation.
  • Refurbish and maintain furniture and fixtures throughout the hotel.
  • Ensure the exterior of the facility, including grounds and recreational areas, is safe and clean.
  • Follow security procedures to protect inventory and assets.
  • Maintain a clean and presentable front entrance and parking area.
  • Prepare and ensure all assigned equipment is operational for the next day’s tasks.
  • Conduct maintenance and repair work on both the interior and exterior of the hotel, including HVAC systems and swimming pools.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as outlined in the PM Works program, including inspections and logging of scheduled work.
  • Foster teamwork and quality service through effective communication with other departments.
  • Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Advanced vocational training with a minimum of two years of experience in building maintenance or construction.
  • Experience in the extended stay industry or apartment maintenance is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems, and equipment mechanics.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and safety information.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including budgeting and profit/loss analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and training skills.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, climb, kneel, and move throughout the facility.
  • Capability to handle and maintain various objects and equipment.
  • Regular use of commercial cleaning chemicals may be required.
  • Ability to lift or carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
