Job Overview & Responsibilities:
  • The Senior Java Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of sophisticated software applications tailored for Satellite Ground Systems.
  • This position necessitates close collaboration with systems engineers, hardware designers, and fellow software engineers to ensure the delivery of dependable and high-performance software solutions.
  • Design, implement, and rigorously test Java-based applications and software components specific to satellite ground systems.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to articulate software requirements and specifications.
  • Review and modify existing code as required to enhance functionality.
  • Guarantee software performance, reliability, and scalability throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Participate in software design reviews, code assessments, and system integration tasks.
  • Contribute to the achievement of program and project milestones under the guidance of direct supervisors.
  • Adhere to established software processes and procedures, including development, documentation, and management of operational concepts, requirements, and other software engineering artifacts.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in Java and satellite technology to foster innovation.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in object-oriented software design and development utilizing Java in a Linux environment, along with proficiency in unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Perl and Python.
  • Experience working in an Agile/DevOps environment.
  • Clearance requirements: This position mandates an active and transferable TS/SCI U.S. government issued security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, containerization, and the Spring Framework.
  • Security+ certification.
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool suite.
  • Familiarity with satellite communication systems and protocols is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices, particularly in defense or aerospace environments.
  • Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
