Responsibilities and Qualifications

Cardiovascular Imaging Technologists possess a thorough understanding of patient care, assessment, and treatment protocols. They assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures, ensuring accurate monitoring and documentation of cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer contrast media following established guidelines.
  • Prepare sterile trays and maintain a sterile environment in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Assist interventional physicians during procedures.
  • Understand pharmacology related to imaging procedures.
  • Establish and maintain IV access as needed.
  • Document procedures accurately in the medical record system.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess one or both of the following credentials:

1. A current license or certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or the ability to obtain this within one year of employment.

2. A current license or certification from an accredited Radiologic Technology program, with registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)).

  • BLS certification is required, with ACLS training to be completed within six months of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a Cath lab or EP lab is preferred, though new graduates from RCIS programs may be considered.
  • Knowledge of radioactive waste management and disposal protocols.
