Oncology Nutrition Specialist

The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist/CSO Oncology will be responsible for delivering outpatient nutritional guidance and education to patients, families, and the broader community within the oncology sector. This role encompasses care coordination, risk assessment, development of care plans in collaboration with patients, and both group and individual educational sessions. The ideal candidate will possess significant expertise in nutrition-focused physical examinations (NFPE), as well as enteral and parenteral nutrition, providing tailored recommendations as necessary.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with primary care providers, oncologists, and a multidisciplinary team to devise and prioritize strategies that support patients in managing their nutritional needs throughout cancer treatment and survivorship.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology and medication management related to oncology, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, food allergies, obesity, malnutrition, and metabolic disorders, along with essential concepts of nutrition care coordination and self-management techniques.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives to promote nutrition services and provide educational resources.
- Engage in additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
- Monitor and document nutrition-specific outcomes.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nutrition is required; a Master of Science is preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in outpatient or inpatient nutritional counseling.
- 1-3 years of experience working specifically with oncology patients.
- Registered Dietitian with current licensure and registration.
- Certification as a Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO) is preferred upon hire; if not held, successful completion of the CSO exam is required within 12 months of employment, with costs covered by the organization.
- Expertise in the pathophysiology and management of oncology, malnutrition, diabetes, lipids, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney and liver diseases, and basic principles of nutrition care coordination.
- Familiarity with the Nutrition Care Process, NFPE, and Malnutrition Diagnosing Criteria.
- Strong understanding of safe nutrition programming principles for cancer patients.
- Experience in developing nutrition care plans for patients receiving enteral and parenteral nutrition.
- Proficient in discussing laboratory results with patients and requesting specific tests when necessary.
- Knowledge of vitamins, minerals, supplements, and their interactions with medications.
- High cultural competency; a commitment to equity and inclusion; effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues and provide constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and capacity to work independently.
- Competent in navigating electronic health records (EHR), Microsoft Office, and Excel.

CompensationThe salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000. Individual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including market data, education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
