Position Overview

We are seeking a Technical Applications Consultant to enhance our team. This role will serve as a vital technical resource within the Inside Sales division, addressing intricate technical challenges as they emerge. The consultant will engage in troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues and collaborate with internal technical teams as necessary. This position evaluates the risks associated with unfamiliar technical applications while demonstrating the discernment to seek assistance from Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Purchasing, and Production to finalize cost assessments and develop quotations based on capacity and capability needs. This is a client-facing role that necessitates interaction with end users and channel partners. The primary objective is to work in close partnership with the Inside Sales team to manage orders, assess the complexity of quotation requests, and lead inquiries for Engineer-to-Order (ETO) and Make-to-Order (MTO) components that are not cataloged in the system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize your application and field engineering expertise to evaluate opportunities and identify product solutions aligned with customer technical specifications.
  • Address customer application inquiries or seek technical support for unfamiliar applications to prepare accurate cost estimates and final quotations, particularly for non-standard, low-volume products requiring specialized engineering knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Sales Management, Customer Service, and the Planning Group to resolve cost, pricing, and lead time challenges that may hinder customer satisfaction and profitability.
  • Engage with customers and Sales Management to provide final quotations for ETO and MTO components that are not listed in the system.
  • Coordinate with internal and external technical resources to ensure comprehensive review of customer specifications, clarification of product application requirements, and accurate processing of exceptions and documentation.
  • Foster strong working relationships and provide technical support to all customers, both internal and external.
  • Verify data and cost information within business systems, including engineering descriptions, manufacturing processes, purchase costs, and sales pricing.
  • Collaborate with technical resources to propose alternative application solutions that leverage existing product offerings and/or inventory.
  • Employ benchmarking tools to identify cost discrepancies and assess cost competitiveness in the market.
  • Work alongside Engineering and Production to gain advanced knowledge of product offerings.
  • Utilize the Salesforce CRM system for effective communication with internal and external customers, adhering to established processes and procedures. Experience with Salesforce is advantageous.
Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in field or applications engineering.
  • A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, or related technical fields. Alternatively, 8-9 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Must possess a systems/process-oriented mindset to independently devise solutions for non-recurring issues.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and familiarity with cost accounting principles to comprehend key cost drivers for assigned product lines is essential. Previous experience in cost estimation and project management is preferred.
  • Familiarity with TechnipFMC products and applications, as well as knowledge of competitor offerings, is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Additional Skills
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to assess customer application needs.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel) and experience with SAP Business Systems or other ERP systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing abilities and/or bilingual language skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
