Metal Quality Assurance Specialist

A Metal Quality Assurance Specialist is tasked with guaranteeing the integrity and compliance of metal components within a fabrication or manufacturing setting. This role is vital in upholding product standards, executing inspections, assessments, and measurements, and ensuring that metal products align with established criteria and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform visual evaluations of metal components at different stages of the production process to detect any flaws, discrepancies, or non-conformities.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments, such as calipers and micrometers, to confirm product accuracy and compliance with specifications.
  • Apply non-destructive testing methods, including ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspections, to uncover internal defects or structural anomalies.
  • Conduct surface evaluations using techniques like dye penetrant testing or visual inspections under suitable lighting.
  • Execute mechanical tests, such as hardness and tensile testing, to evaluate the strength and properties of metal materials.
  • Adhere to established inspection protocols, checklists, or work instructions to ensure thorough and consistent evaluations.
  • Document and report inspection findings, including any identified defects or compliance issues, using appropriate forms or databases.
  • Gather representative samples of metal materials or finished products for laboratory analysis.
  • Conduct various tests, such as chemical composition or metallurgical analysis, using specialized testing equipment.
  • Assess test outcomes against established specifications or industry standards to ensure compliance and identify any discrepancies.
  • Assist in the formulation and execution of testing protocols to guarantee accurate and dependable results.
  • Monitor and evaluate manufacturing processes to identify potential quality concerns or variations.
  • Collect and analyze data related to process parameters and material characteristics to assess stability and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with production teams and engineers to implement corrective measures or adjustments to enhance product quality.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in metallurgy or quality assurance is advantageous.
  • Experience in quality control or inspection roles within metal fabrication or manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of metal materials, manufacturing processes, and quality control methodologies.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring tools and non-destructive testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of metallurgical principles and mechanical testing techniques.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and quality standards.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to identify quality issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in metal quality control is required.
  • Background check is mandatory.
  • Steel toe boots are required.
