Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual assessments of metal products or components throughout various stages of the fabrication or manufacturing process to detect defects, inconsistencies, or non-conformities.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, or gauges, to conduct dimensional measurements and confirm product accuracy against specifications.
- Apply non-destructive testing methods, including ultrasonic testing or magnetic particle inspection, to uncover internal defects or structural anomalies.
- Execute surface evaluations using techniques like dye penetrant testing or visual inspections under optimal lighting conditions.
- Conduct mechanical tests, such as hardness testing or tensile testing, to evaluate the strength and mechanical properties of metals.
- Adhere to established inspection protocols, checklists, or work instructions to ensure accurate and consistent evaluations.
- Document and record inspection findings, including any identified defects or non-compliance, using appropriate reporting tools or databases.
- Gather representative samples of metal materials, alloys, or finished products for laboratory analysis or testing.
- Perform various analyses, such as chemical composition evaluation, metallurgical examination, or corrosion resistance testing, utilizing specialized equipment or methodologies.
- Assess test outcomes against established specifications or industry standards to ascertain compliance and identify any discrepancies or issues.
- Contribute to the development and execution of testing protocols, procedures, or specifications to ensure accurate and dependable test results.
- Monitor and evaluate metal fabrication or manufacturing processes to identify potential quality concerns or process variations.
- Collect and analyze data, including process parameters, material characteristics, or machine settings, to evaluate process stability and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with production staff, engineers, or supervisors to implement corrective measures or process modifications to enhance product quality and consistency.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in metallurgy, quality assurance, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in quality control or inspection roles within a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of metal materials, alloys, manufacturing processes, and quality control techniques.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, or non-destructive testing equipment.
- Understanding of metallurgical principles and mechanical testing methods.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, or quality standards.
- Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC) principles and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and analyze quality issues.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- 2+ years in metal quality control required.
- Background check required.
