Responsibilities

Career Seasonal: Career-Seasonal roles are permanent positions that offer the same benefits as Career appointments, yet do not guarantee year-round employment. You will be engaged for approximately 25 pay periods, followed by a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

  • Operates light-duty motor vehicles with a weight capacity of up to 10,000 pounds (including pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, materials, or equipment to various work sites.
  • Utilizes heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, backpack blowers, and a variety of hand tools (including shovels, rakes, lawn edgers, etc.) to maintain facilities, landscapes, roads, and trails.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, and dollies. Responsible for moving furniture, setting up and removing signs, painting items like picnic tables and signs, trimming trees and shrubs, and collecting litter.
  • Performs custodial duties for buildings as necessary.
  • Digs ditches/trenches using hand tools; occasionally breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixes and pours concrete and asphalt; fills and levels damaged grounds and roads; operates heavy power mowers and maintains equipment.

  • Appointment is subject to a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • Direct Deposit: Selected candidates will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is mandatory for operating government or private vehicles as part of your official duties. You will need to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • Uniform: Compliance with National Park Service uniform standards is required, and a uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Probationary Period: New employees or supervisors in the Federal government must complete a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate adequate knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Ability to perform the duties of the position with minimal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining tools and equipment
  • Dexterity and adherence to safety protocols
  • Vehicle operation skills
  • Work practices, including maintaining cleanliness and organization

Volunteer Experience: Relevant experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs and other organizations. Volunteer work contributes to building essential competencies and skills that translate directly to paid employment. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.

Education: There is no educational substitution for experience in Wage Grade (WG) positions.
