Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Auburn Hills. As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring that buildings and structures in our community meet the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with state and local building codes and regulations.
  • Enforce building codes and regulations through education and enforcement.
  • Investigate complaints and reports of building code violations.
  • Collaborate with builders, architects, and engineers to resolve code-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Requirements
  • Registration with the State of Michigan under Act 407 as a Plans Examiner and Building Inspector.
  • Four (4) years of experience in general building construction as a contractor, skilled worker, or person responsibly in charge of construction.
  • At least three (3) years previous related enforcement experience within a building department and/or ordinance enforcement agency.
  • Current license from the State of Michigan as a Building Inspector/Plan Examiner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary range: $65,499 - $72,280.
  • Monday through Friday schedule, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • City vehicle provided while on duty.
