POSITION SUMMARY

The Hospice & Palliative Care Physician is accountable for ensuring the quality and continuity of medical services within the Hospice & Palliative Medicine framework. This role involves the development of clinical and support teams, adherence to clinical standards, and compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducts consultations in palliative medicine as necessary.
  2. Collaborates with attending physicians and team members to formulate care plans.
  3. Contributes to the establishment of palliative care initiatives in affiliated institutions.
  4. Acts as a collaborating physician for Nurse Practitioners in the Hospice & Palliative Care team.
  5. Provides medical guidance to clinical staff via phone or beeper.
  6. Facilitates communication between staff and attending physicians.
  7. Represents Hospice & Palliative Medicine within the medical community, promoting the agency's services.
  8. Works alongside the CMO, Clinical Coordinator, IDT, and COO to enhance care quality and efficiency.
  9. Engages in the education of nursing and medical students, as well as residents.
  10. Participates in community outreach and professional development activities.
  11. Maintains current knowledge of hospice and palliative care practices.
  12. Advocates for the advancement of hospice and palliative care through committee involvement.
  13. Engages in continuing education relevant to Hospice & Palliative Care.
  14. Assists Medical Directors as required.
  15. Provides on-call coverage 24/7, ensuring availability for staff and patients.
  16. Attends assigned team meetings.
  17. Reviews incoming patient records for hospice eligibility and care level.
  18. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

Serves as a collaborating physician for Nurse Practitioners.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Ability to interpret and analyze professional literature, write reports, and effectively communicate with various stakeholders.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

Competence in applying mathematical concepts to practical scenarios.

REASONING SKILLS

Ability to address practical problems and interpret diverse instructions.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

Must possess a current unrestricted medical license in Tennessee, be eligible for malpractice insurance, and have DEA certification.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Reliable transportation is necessary. Must demonstrate effective management of resources and respond competently in high-pressure situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role may involve exposure to various environmental conditions and requires the ability to perform essential functions in diverse settings.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Completion of 18 hours of continuing education annually is required to maintain proficiency in the role.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

A Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an accredited institution is required, along with a minimum of four years of medical experience preferred.
