About the Role
  • Develop and create written content, including articles, press releases, and fact sheets, that effectively communicate key messages and meet requirements for internal and external audiences.
  • Provide editorial guidance to communications staff on written content in accordance with AP style guidelines.
  • Collaborate with team members to create original concepts that result in effective and engaging internal and external communication.
  • Write clear, concise, and grammatically correct copy that aligns with approved brand, voice, and style.
  • Manage administrative tasks and requests for information.
  • Proactively identify communication gaps and develop strategies to address them.
  • Perform final document quality assurance and quality control reviews on content products prior to distribution.
  • Consult relevant sources to obtain and verify background information.
  • Develop outlines and drafts that meet client requirements and regulations.
  • Edit copy to comply with in-house and AP style guides.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, public affairs, or related field OR a minimum six (6) years of related experience in editing documents working in a military/engineering/technical/research, development, or testing environment.
  • US Citizen.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Proven ability to support communication programs and products, media relations, community relations, special events, and photography support.
  • Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web-based, and hard copy material.
  • Proficient in writing, formatting, editing, and maintaining a range of print and digital media.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards and how to create products that adhere to these standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of AP Style.
  • Exceptional writer and copy editor.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to understand highly technical material to disseminate to a wider audience.
