Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Forensic Psychologist III to join our team at Western State Hospital. As a Forensic Psychologist III, you will be responsible for providing forensic assessments and evaluations for defendants and NGRI acquittees ordered to inpatient treatment at a state facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive forensic assessments and evaluations to determine competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of the offense, and other relevant factors.
  • Provide expert testimony in court regarding forensic matters.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for forensic populations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide consultation and training on forensic matters.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant Virginia codes and psycholegal criteria for persons found incompetent to stand trial, insane at the time of the offense, and not guilty by reason of insanity.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program.
  • Licensed (or eligible to be licensed) to practice clinical psychology in Virginia.
  • Completion (or eligible to complete) the forensic evaluation training program for Virginia.
  • Demonstrated experience providing forensic evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual.
  • Veteran.
