Healthcare Staffing Professionals, Inc. is looking for a Psychologist to work in a state hospital located in Staunton, VA. Candidates will evaluate individuals with serious mental disorders and provide for or refer them for needed services. Collaborate with other care disciplines to maximize the quality of interdisciplinary care. Participate in planning for an effective transition and continued recovery in a community care setting. Participate in Departmental, Hospital, and state-wide committees and duties as assigned. Provide services at a system level (such as Commissioner appointed forensic evaluations) as directed.
Location: Staunton, VA
Shifts: 8hrs per day - 5 days per week (full-time)
Job Duties:
Performance Management:
  • Supervises at least one Mental Health Worker Expectations are clear, well communicated, and relate to the goals and objectives of the department or unit;
  • Staff receive frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate;
  • Staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish goals;
  • The requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation;
  • Performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur.
  • Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace.
  • As a supervisor address all reported employee safety issues in a timely manner in order to establish and maintain a culture that is committed to workplace safety and health, to include that all staff are trained accordingly.
Psychological service provision & input to treatment team
  • Prioritizes need for and provides psychological services (assessment, therapy, etc.) for all patients on caseload (admissions: average 14).
  • Provides at least two PSR group hours/week.
  • Conducts initial psychology documentation for patients transferred to the unit.
  • Timeliness and quality of services to be consistent with departmental standards (90% or greater completed within 7 days of admission or transfer, 90% of elements under peer review meeting department standards or higher).
  • Instrumental in development of treatment plans and PSR group referrals (e.g., expresses treatment plan and group objectives in observable measurable manner, includes behavioral elements in treatment plans as needed; treatment plans submitted to HOTT for signature within 7 days of admission or transfer).
  • Assesses and makes recommendations for individuals who exceed behavioral criteria for complex cases; quality consistent with Dept. standards.
  • Attends treatment planning and review meetings, as needed, to provide input and guidance from a psychological perspective. Supervises unit program development and implementation (e.g., group reinforcement programs).
Committee meetings and department assignments
  • Participates in at least two departmental or hospital committees (excluding Psychology QM).
  • Attends 90% of meetings providing quality input. Performs basic hospital management responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner (e.g., required training). Provide staff training as assigned.
Communication and safety
  • Demonstrates openness by listening, clarifying questions, asking for suggestions, and speaking directly to the involved parties.
  • Reports safety issues in a timely manner and maintain all mandatory training requirements in order to establish and maintain a culture that is committed to workplace safety and health.
Incorporate evidence based practices into psychological services
  • Remains abreast of best practices in the field of psychological assessment and intervention and incorporates knowledge into psychological practice.
Forensic assessments: CST, MSO, NGRI evaluations and request for privileges packets
  • Performs forensic evaluations in accordance with applicable legal and professional standards. Quality to meet departmental standards based on QM review, document review, and observation

  • Ability to assess, formulate, and provide interventions for individuals with serious mental disorders.
  • Ability to conduct individual and group psychotherapy.
  • Ability to administer and interpret common psychological assessment measures.
  • Consultation skills for the assessment, management, and treatment of indivdiuals with serious mental disorders. Interpersonal, oral, and writing skills to communication effectively with indivdiuals with serious mental disorders, family members, and other individuals of varying backgrounds and roles.
  • Ability to collaborate with other disciplines to provide quality interdisciplinary care.
