Position Overview

The Assistant Laboratory Manager plays a pivotal role in assisting the Director with the administrative functions of the laboratory across all shifts. This position entails providing leadership and collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure the laboratory operates smoothly in compliance with all regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shared Accountability: Collaborate with the manager to achieve departmental and organizational objectives, focusing on team engagement and ongoing process enhancements.
  • Human Resource Functions: Under managerial guidance, engage in essential HR activities such as recruitment, retention, coaching, training, performance evaluation, and work schedule management.
  • Managerial Support: Offer necessary managerial assistance as required.
  • Quality Improvement: Develop, implement, and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Record Maintenance: Ensure all records related to staff competency, quality audits, and other pertinent documentation are meticulously maintained.
  • Educational Support: Contribute to the educational mission by training laboratory students and staff involved in laboratory procedures.
  • Budget Management: Operate within the approved budget and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Professional Role Model: Serve as a mentor, coach, and resource for team members.
  • Patient Care Improvement: Collaborate with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care outcomes.
  • Professional Development: Take initiative for personal professional growth.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Compensation

Position Compensation Range: $81,000 - $129,729.60 Annual

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act & Amendments (CLIA).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in a complex healthcare setting.
  • Licensure/Certification: CT or HTL, ASCP or equivalent. A valid Virginia Driver's License may be required.
Physical Requirements

This role necessitates standing for extended periods, frequent bending, stooping, traveling, climbing (including ladders and steps), and driving. Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills are essential, along with attention to detail and the ability to write legibly. The ability to lift, push, or pull over 35 lbs is also required.
