Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Recreation Therapist to join our Behavioral Health team. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing therapeutic recreation programs for patients in our psychiatric units.

Your primary responsibility will be to assess each patient's recreational needs, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate their effectiveness. You will also participate in treatment team meetings and serve as a role model for a healthy, adaptive lifestyle.

To be successful in this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy and experience working in psychiatry. You should also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to lead exercise activities and physically restrain patients when necessary.

As a Recreation Therapist at Ochsner Health, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and contribute to a team that is dedicated to providing exceptional care.

Responsibilities
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements therapeutic recreation programs for patients in psychiatric units
  • Assesses patient recreational needs and plans interventions
  • Evaluates treatment plans and provides patient care with clinical competency
  • Participates in treatment team meetings and serves as a role model for a healthy, adaptive lifestyle
  • Leads exercise activities and physically restrains patients when necessary
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy

Work Environment

This position requires working in a patient care area, interacting with patients, and potentially being exposed to blood, body fluids, and tissue. You must be able to attend occasional outside activities and work extended hours, as well as travel between facilities.
