Mosquito Control Specialist

As a Mosquito Control Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:

• Routinely inspecting control zones for potential mosquito breeding habitats and the presence of mosquito larvae through visual inspection and "dipping"
  
• Assessing each inspection site and utilizing the appropriate control techniques, such as no action, source reduction, biological control, public education, and chemical control, including the application of larvicides and adulticides at the labelled application rates
  
• Placing and retrieving monitoring devices for accessing mosquito populations
  
• Accurately recording all findings and control activities on the appropriate log sheet and GPS unit, and entering data into VDCI's database as required by the contract
  
• Being thoroughly familiar with all applicable chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and handling/applying all chemicals according to label specifications
  
• Knowing and following proper safety and spill procedures at all times, and using all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regularly
  
• Communicating respectfully, honestly, and knowledgeably to residents at all times during service request inspections, routine larvicide activities, or during any other public relations activities
  
• Knowing and following the proper and safe operations of all equipment used
  
• Mixing pesticides and filling sprayers accurately as needed, and following all required safety precautions for the application of products
  
• Reacting to change promptly and effectively, and handling other essential tasks as assigned
  

In addition to these responsibilities, you will also be required to:

• 
  
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  
• Be flexible with working hours, Monday-Friday, with the possibility of working weekends as needed
  
• Be at least 18 years of age
  
• Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms
  
• May be required to obtain state pesticide applicator licensing (training provided)
  
• Be capable of lifting and using items such as chemical containers and application equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  
• Work regularly performed outdoors and may include exposure to potentially hazardous situations and substances such as weather conditions, challenging and uneven/unstable terrain, pesticides, dust and airborne particulates, excessive noise, biting insects, hazardous plants, and wild and domestic animals
  
• Pass a pre-employment background screen
  
• Posess a valid driver's license and pass a motor vehicle record search
