Job Summary:
UNC Health Care is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the clinical activities of our healthcare system.
Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional patient care by instructing patients on preparing for tests that require fasting and answering their questions regarding the tests.
- Maintain equipment and investigate problems with equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Assist in teaching Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, as well as training new employees.
- Monitor the daily operation of the laboratory section or work area to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in special projects and assignments, either individually or as part of a team.
- Perform a variety of routine and standardized tests using standard techniques and equipment, preparing specimens, resolving specimen problems, and performing analytical tests.
- Label and store specimens, prepare reagents, and assist in the preparation of standard and control materials.
- Record results of tests and maintain records, providing test results and reporting deviations from the norm to the supervisor or ordering physician.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
- ASCP or AMT Board of Certification eligible and must receive BOC within a year, if Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician.
- Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification (BOC) required, if Associate's degree in chemical or biological science.
Work Environment:
This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
