Job Description

A Diesel Engine Technician is needed to perform highly skilled repairs and maintenance of diesel-driven automotive equipment.

As a key member of the team at Greater Portland Transit Metro, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing Maine State Inspections on all METRO vehicles.
  • Diagnosing trouble with engines, electrical and fuel systems, and examining parts for defects and excessive wear.
  • Reconditioning and replacing parts, such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.

You will also respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service, and may assist in snow removal activities.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintain a high degree of skill in recognizing, locating, and adjusting defects, and effectively use hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment.

The minimum requirements for this position include:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtaining a CDL-B with Air Brakes & Passenger Endorsement within 6 months of employment (paid training provided).
  • Obtaining a Maine State Inspection License within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of parts and processes, and computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
