Job Title: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the University of Michigan. As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to pediatric and young adult patients admitted to the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Pediatric Neurology service.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide inpatient care to pediatric and young adult patients admitted to the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Pediatric Neurology service.
  • Direct patient care and management, including performing histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, attending team-based rounds, processing discharges, and developing a plan of care both independently and in coordination with other PEMU team members.
  • Stabilizing and transferring patients to Pediatric ICU, if indicated.
  • Patient and family counseling, education, and support as necessary.
  • Collaboration with and place referrals to consulting services in multidisciplinary care.
  • Respond to calls from patients/families and care teams.
  • Contribute to the development and modification of department-specific quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in professional development; attend continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature.
  • Triage calls from non-admitted patients, outside hospitals/emergency departments, or for consultations.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan OR current specialty certification as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan with two years of inpatient pediatric APP experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • DEA license.
  • AHA Approved BLS and PALS.
  • Two years of clinical experience in pediatrics.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of nursing/clinical experience with pediatric epilepsy or neurology patients.
  • One year of experience practicing as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize busy clinical practice.
Work Schedule:

Variable; Rotating days/nights (primarily nights), Monday - Sunday, including holidays.

40 hours/week.
