Agronomy Product Specialist Job Summary

As an Agronomy Product Specialist at Southern States Cooperative, you will play a critical role in preparing and spreading custom applications of agronomy products on customers' fields. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare custom applications of dry fertilizer, crop protectants, and other treatment products according to customer work orders.
  • Transfer dry bulk products from trailers into bulk spreading vehicles.
  • Operate bulk spreading vehicles, including dry row spreaders, John Deere dry bodies, spreader trucks, and/or Terra-Gators.
  • Ensure complete coverage of designated areas and check equipment for proper application and spread pattern.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Applicator team and manager to ensure efficient scheduling and dispatching.
  • Drive to customer locations and represent Southern States Cooperative in a positive and customer-focused manner.
  • Properly utilize and maintain equipment, perform routine preventive maintenance, and repair to keep equipment in good working condition.
  • Assist with taking physical inventory of fertilizers, crop protectants, and related products.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, minimize waste, and properly dispose of waste material.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Previous experience applying fertilizer, crop protectants, and other treatment products, or working in an agricultural environment
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Ability to learn and effectively apply knowledge of applicator equipment operation, precision ag software and hardware, and SSC applicator procedures and government regulations
  • Ability to work well independently and follow safety, quality control, and operating procedures at all times
  • Ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner
  • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language in a proficient manner
Work Environment:

This role requires continuous physical activity to perform essential job functions for the duration of the shift. At times, extended hours are required. The work environment is primarily outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions. Occasionally, essential job functions are performed indoors in an environment that is not climate-controlled and experiences temperature and humidity swings.

Physical Activities & Requirements:
  • Continuous bending, crouching, stooping; driving motorized equipment; manual dexterity to handle controls, tools, and equipment
  • Frequent balancing, kneeling, shoveling, stacking, sweeping; climbing steps in and out of vehicles throughout the shift
  • Occasional pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying pounds
Specific Vision Abilities Required:
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Tools & Equipment:
  • Hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, mask (nose and mouth), earplugs, gloves, respirator, face shield, front-end loader, forklift, scale, manuals, forms, spreadsheets, telephone
