Job Overview
This role is essential in delivering clinical and technical support services, assisting nursing staff and medical professionals to ensure optimal patient care, while also managing clerical and communication tasks to enhance the operational efficiency of the Care Center. Responsibilities are executed in accordance with the standards defined in the competency evaluation framework. The individual in this role will align with the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Mary Washington Healthcare, demonstrating a commitment to providing high-quality service to patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
Adheres to performance expectations and standards as outlined in the position description. Cultivates a collaborative relationship with MWHC/ED personnel, nursing staff, and physicians, both verbally and through precise documentation. Aids nursing staff in gathering patient data and samples. Supports nursing and medical staff by executing designated patient care tasks. Engages in unit and MWHC infection control initiatives and performance enhancement processes. Assists the Manager with compliance readiness as required. Contributes to the unit's risk management strategy. Exhibits effective communication, customer service, and teamwork skills. Takes responsibility for professional development, regulatory compliance, and educational requirements at the departmental level. Maintains necessary licensure or certifications relevant to the position throughout employment. Demonstrates proficiency in clerical duties using the hospital's information systems. Facilitates communication among diagnostic/testing areas, patient care settings, and families. Responds to patient call light systems promptly. Communicates patient and family requests to the appropriate personnel immediately upon receipt. Acts on patient and family requests when appropriate. Functions as a welcoming unit receptionist for associates, physicians, patients, families, and visitors. Coordinates physician and departmental consultations until tasks are completed. Ensures a safe and organized environment. Collaborates with the Supply Agent to address equipment and supply needs. Assists in cleaning and maintaining medical equipment. Reports any equipment malfunctions to the relevant department. Initiates emergency protocols as directed. Undertakes additional duties as necessary, including responsibilities of other care team members. Performs Communication Coordinator duties as required. Conducts venipuncture and initiates IVs. Executes phlebotomy and specimen collection with appropriate labeling and transport. Applies cardiac monitoring as needed; performs 12-lead EKGs. Prepares sterile trays for suturing and sterile procedures. Inserts Foley catheters when indicated; documents intake and output. Performs splinting and/or applies orthopedic adjuncts as per physician orders.Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED is required. Current Virginia State EMT Certification and/or National Registry is required. AHA CPR certification is required. One (1) year of experience as an EMT, military corpsman, or in a clinical-related field is preferred.
