Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Recertification Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing certifications for various programs, including Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, Family Self Sufficiency, and Low Income Housing Tax Credit. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HUD regulations and policies, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Process eligible households for rental assistance and affordable housing programs, ensuring accurate and timely completion of applications and documentation.
- Verify income, assets, medical expenses, and assisted dwelling information, and enter data into our management system to generate rent, utility allowance, and escrow calculations.
- Prepare necessary forms for property managers to secure signatures, finalizing agreements between tenants, owners, and management agents.
- Maintain participant contact through phone and mail, ensuring timely submission of necessary documents and compliance with program rules.
- Perform annual reexaminations and compute interim rent changes, assisting participants in completing and signing all relevant papers.
- Complete all work according to established procedures, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and files.
- Resolve program abuse allegations, review public records, and investigate as directed, issuing program warnings or termination notices as warranted.
- Inform managers of program requirements, including Housing Quality Standards, and process rent abatement as requested by inspection.
- Prepare monthly reports and attend meetings as necessary.
Requirements
- Three years' experience with low-income, senior, or housing-related programs.
- Certified COS, TCS, MORS, BOS, CMH, or AHM (preferred).
- High School Diploma.
- Knowledge of rental assistance and affordable housing programs.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation, including federal housing regulations and policies.
- Proven written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reasonable knowledge of community, social, and economic resources available to low-income and elderly individuals.
- Ability to learn and follow regulations, policies, and procedures of HUD and LIHTC programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of tenants and landlords.
- Ability to work harmoniously with other employees.
- Ability to work with diverse ethnic and low-income families in a professional manner.
- Second language is a plus.
