Principal Systems Safety Engineer

Collins Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Safety Engineer to join our Avionics Systems Safety Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing system safety processes and procedures to ensure the safe design and development of avionics systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and perform civil safety assessment processes in accordance with ARP4761 or military safety assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E.
- Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity.
- Review design and development documentation for safety-critical equipment.
- Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers.
- Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology).

As a Principal Systems Safety Engineer, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in industry-specific safety standards and regulations, as well as develop your skills in safety analysis and risk assessment. You will also have the chance to work with a talented team of engineers and collaborate with customers and stakeholders to develop plans and solutions.
Education and Experience
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience. Qualifications
Knowledge of aircraft or electronic systems. Knowledge on how to prepare and present technical information to peers, to all levels of internal management, and to external customers. Knowledge on how to coordinate several projects and complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules, engaging in effective time management, working with a great deal of independence. Product Safety Experience. Working knowledge of ARP4761 OR Mil-Std 882E, or other equivalent industry-accepted safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297. Proficiency in Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), as well as CAFTA, is indispensable. Basic knowledge in reliability engineering theory. Recognized technical expert in avionics safety. Proficiency in understanding the mathematical aspects of Safety and Reliability engineering, including statistics, probability theory, and mathematical modeling. Cross-cultural awareness to navigate diverse team environments effectively. Strong adherence to process compliance.
