Job Overview

The Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist to join our team in Los Angeles. As an Environmental Specialist, you will play a critical role in coordinating and negotiating with state and federal environmental agencies regarding wildlife species and protected animal species.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and negotiate with state and federal environmental agencies regarding wildlife species and protected animal species
  • Provide guidance, direction, and expertise on endangered species regulations
  • Assist district environmental units in determining appropriate and cost-effective mitigation measures
  • Coordinate the district-wide identification and resolution of wildlife passage issues through transportation rights-of-way
  • Negotiate project approvals and permits related to biological resources
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle
  • Occasional travel may be required

Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced, busy environment with considerable flexibility in managing time, priorities, and assignments. You may be required to travel to district offices or other meeting facilities, and/or to the sites of proposed projects. In the field, you may experience all climatic conditions, including rain or snow. Proposed project sites and/or construction sites may be loud, dusty, and dirty and may include rugged terrain.
