Position Summary:
Cotton is seeking dependable and experienced Utility/Prep Cooks who can adapt to high-volume demands. This position involves supporting the chef with food preparation, dining area setup, and cleanliness, assisting in meal service, dishwashing, and other tasks as needed beyond the kitchen. Additionally, the Utility/Prep Cook will undertake general housekeeping responsibilities, including restroom sanitation, floor maintenance, waste disposal, and any other duties assigned by management that can be executed safely. The ideal candidate will possess 1-3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, demonstrate the ability to manage their workload, and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the chef with food preparation and serving, ensuring proper food storage and protection from contamination.
  • Maintain a continuous supply of fresh coffee and other items.
  • Unload and organize groceries and supplies; ensure proper rotation of perishable items.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, and waste containers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen, walk-in freezer, pantries, and storage areas, including regular cleaning of restrooms and floor maintenance.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, fire drills, and other required gatherings.
  • Demonstrate skills and responsibilities to new team members.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license; additional culinary training or certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience: 1-3 years in a commercial kitchen; familiarity with portioning and controls; proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to various audiences, including supervisors and coworkers.
  • Strong communication skills, including reading, writing, math, and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to follow specific instructions independently.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and lift up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Willingness to stand and move throughout the workplace, performing essential job functions for extended periods, up to 12 hours.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet operational requirements, which may involve working outside of regular hours.
