Radiologic Technologist

As a Radiologic Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will operate radiographic equipment using various imaging modalities to perform diagnostic radiology procedures. You will work under indirect supervision to ensure compliance with department protocols, including fluoroscopy, orthopedics, tomography, C-arms, surgery, and portables. Your technical expertise will be essential in evaluating radiographs for quality and exercising professional judgment in procedure performance. You will also apply principles of radiation protection and provide patient care that is essential to radiographic procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional customer service by maintaining a professional behavior toward members and coworkers, creating a positive image for the department, and being responsive to member needs.
Operate radiographic equipment, including mobile and stationary units, in various patient care settings, consistently selecting correct technical factors and equipment settings to meet study requirements and patient needs.
Process radiographic images properly, utilizing automated equipment, and use proper sterile technique to ensure patient safety and image quality.
Demonstrate knowledge of and consistently use ancillary equipment, such as catheters and guidewires, properly, and operate imaging computers in accordance with department protocols.
Position patients accurately for radiographic imaging, utilizing various immobilizing devices as necessary, and take special care in handling and positioning patients with critical injuries or trauma.
Age-Specific Criteria:
Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivering services to patients of various age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Assess data reflective of patient status and interpret information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provide care accordingly.
Adjust technical factors and modify patient positioning techniques relative to the patient's physical and cognitive abilities, taking special care in handling, positioning, and restraining infants and geriatric patients to avoid injury or excessive radiation exposure.
Exercises Good Clinical Judgment:
Consult with radiologists or other clinicians to clarify orders and select alternate or additional views appropriately relative to patient conditions.
Document clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner, completing and initialing the standard consultation form and the Radiology Processing Record accurately and immediately following each procedure.
Communication:
Demonstrate good communication skills, communicating verbally in a clear and concise manner, and communicating verbal instructions to members in a manner conducive to understanding and compliance.
Speak English in the presence of patients, except as required to interpret for non-English-speaking patients, and communicate in writing accurately, completely, and legibly, routing such communication appropriately and in a timely manner.
Professional Maturity:
Demonstrate professional maturity in all interactions with patients and staff, striving to maintain good working relationships and rapport with patients, other members of the department, and the healthcare team.
Respond appropriately to constructive criticism from supervisors and peers, functioning independently within the defined scope of position.
Productivity:
Meet productivity norms achieved by peers within the department, maintaining equipment, supplies, and work areas in accordance with department guidelines, and keeping equipment and work areas clean at all times.
Organizational Rules, Policies, and Procedures:
Observe all organizational, regional, medical service area, and Diagnostic Imaging Department policies and procedures, being compliant with organizational, regional, and medical service area policies and procedures, and observing Regional Radiation Safety Standards and Department Safety Policies.
Quality of Service:
Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service, greeting members promptly and courteously, informing members of reason for any delays or anticipated delays in their care, and treating patients in accordance with the Patients Bill of Rights.
Conduct only work-related conversations when members are waiting for service, assuming other activities and responsibilities as directed, and upholding Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
