Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Medical Officer to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our senior management staff, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our medical center and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making to drive the success of our medical center
  • Represent the Medical Staff interests to Hospital Leadership and serve as a liaison between the two
  • Initiate, coordinate, and assist in ongoing Medical Staff/medical center projects and activities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Medical Staff organization to achieve its short- and long-term objectives
  • Coordinate and provide staffing for Medical Staff committee activities
  • Plan and implement programs to achieve Medical Staff goals
  • Work closely with the Medical Staff President, other elected Medical Staff officers, department and committee chairpersons, and respond to elected Medical Staff members
  • Foster a close, mutually beneficial relationship between the Medical Staff and the medical center
  • Serve as an integral member of the medical center's management team and work to foster positive team interaction to support medical center goals and projects
  • Provide leadership for capacity management initiatives to improve patient flow and support optimal patient care
  • Coordinate a system of patient care review to monitor physician performance and maintain appropriate physician privileges
  • Direct a medical center-wide Performance Improvement Program to establish standards of performance, monitor mechanisms, and track outcomes
  • Communicate relevant summary information to appropriate areas and guide and direct the activities of the medical center's Performance Improvement Teams
  • Work with leadership to develop and support the medical center-wide clinical effectiveness agenda
  • Develop relationships with medical center and community physicians to support medical center strategic initiatives
  • Establish short- and long-range objectives for assigned areas and implement tactical plans for their achievement in collaboration with medical staff and management personnel
  • Actively participate and collaborate with the larger CMO team to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives, health outcomes strategies, and high reliability across the medical center and Advocate Health
  • Perform human resources responsibilities for staff, including interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale
  • Develop and recommend operating and capital budgets and control expenditures within approved budget objectives
  • Understand and adhere to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and ensure that personal actions and the actions of employees supervised comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business
Requirements
  • Doctorate Degree in Medicine
  • MD-DO license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Typically requires 10 years of experience in a clinical field as a practicing physician, including 5 years of leadership experience with medical staff or other physician groups, performance improvement, and quality programs
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and diplomacy skills
  • Knowledgeable of contemporary practice issues within medicine
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate healthcare and medical staff activities
  • Familiarity with all aspects of hospital operations
  • Knowledgeable in Information Systems and Database Management
  • Dynamic knowledge of outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization
