CRNA - New Orleans East
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a vital member of the surgical team at LCMC Health. This advanced practice nurse is responsible for administering anesthesia to patients undergoing various surgical procedures in different settings. The CRNA must have expertise in four general categories of anesthesia administration: pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation, anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, and post-anesthetic care. The CRNA selects, obtains, and administers anesthetic drugs and fluids to manage the patient's physiologic homeostasis and correct abnormal responses to anesthesia or surgery. The CRNA also selects and applies non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities to collect and interpret patient physiological data. Additionally, the CRNA manages the patient's airway and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, and respiratory therapy. The CRNA releases or discharges patients from the post-anesthesia care area, provides post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care related to anesthesia side effects or complications, and orders, initiates, or modifies pain relief therapy. The CRNA responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques. The CRNA provides clinical support services outside of the operating room, including radiology, endoscopy, emergency department, or invasive labs, and provides consultation and implementation of respiratory and ventilatory care upon request or referral. The CRNA identifies and manages emergency situations, including the initiation or participation in cardiopulmonary resuscitation that involves airway maintenance, ventilation, tracheal intubation, pharmacologic, cardiopulmonary support, management of blood, fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance. The CRNA performs clinical and didactic teaching, supervision, and evaluation of students and interdepartmental liaising, and is a member of departmental committees and research participant. The CRNA must have a license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing and advanced practice nursing in Louisiana, be licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (RN/CRNA), and have American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. The CRNA works variable hours and is part of a community that values diversity and inclusion. LCMC Health is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all qualified applicants.
