About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Editor to join our team at NPR. As a key member of our editorial team, you will be responsible for developing and executing high-quality content for our flagship newsmagazine show, All Things Considered, and our popular podcast, Consider This.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and pitch original program content for All Things Considered and Consider This, with a focus on forward-looking stories and aggressive deadlines.
  • Lead the execution of major show-based projects, working closely with show and newsroom colleagues to serve broadcast, podcast, and digital audiences.
  • Rotate into the Line Editor role, guiding the shape of the overall show and taking responsibility for editorial integrity and quality of final broadcast/published product.
  • Provide editorial guidance and mentoring for more junior editorial/production staff.
  • Edit daily show and digital content.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience leading and mentoring staff.
  • At least 10 years of experience as a journalist in audio/news.
  • Proven experience maintaining high journalistic standards on multiple projects simultaneously, under stringent timeframes and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a decisive leader and a collaborative team member.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience communicating with NPR Newsroom and other internal stakeholders to effectively oversee team interactions within NPR.
Education Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in audio journalism/news.

  • This is an on-site role based in Washington, DC.
Job Type
  • This is a full-time, exempt position.
Compensation
  • Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $122,500-$140,000 plus benefits.
