Job Summary:The Health and Fitness Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the safety and well-being of the Wellness Center, including patron questions and concerns, education on proper machine instruction, machine and equipment upkeep, and assistance with any fitness programming which utilize the Wellness Center.
Responsibilities:- Perform physical assessments to determine capacity to exercise
- Lead group exercise sessions, providing instructions and demonstrating proper exercise techniques
- Develop and implement fitness programs through the use of Fitlinxx
- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly
- Manage memberships, software, Fitlinxx, and spreadsheets
- Request supplies as needed
- Calculate and prepare exercise prescriptions according to patient's physical condition and needs
- Communicate results of evaluations and training progress to primary physicians, patients, and supervising physicians
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, ensuring patient confidentiality
- Interact professionally with patients/families and involve patients/families in the formation of the plan of care
- Recognize basic arrhythmias on telemetry and react appropriately
- Monitor blood pressure, heart rate, perceived clinical status, and workload of each patient, considering the age of the patient
- Assist with exercise stress tests, as needed
- Perform patient care responsibilities, considering needs specific to the Standard of Care for patient's age
- Assess and reassess pain management techniques utilized, educating the patient and family regarding pain management
- Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning, including family as appropriate
- Consult other departments as necessary to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs
- High School diploma or GED
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field
- ACLS preferred and BLS required
- Preferred Group Fitness Certification by recognized group fitness association
The Health and Fitness Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in situations of high stress and conflict.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of exercise physiology and current standards in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. They will also have the ability to make appropriate judgments by utilizing decision-making skills and maintain absolute confidentiality of material and information accessed and reviewed.
The position requires basic computer literacy and the ability to move freely, reach, bend, and complete light lifting. The Health and Fitness Specialist will also be expected to maintain attendance to meet standard job practices.
