The Breast Imaging Specialist is tasked with executing a range of specialized technical functions in Breast Care, employing high-frequency sound waves to aid medical professionals in identifying anatomical irregularities of the breast.
Key Responsibilities:
A typical day for a Breast Imaging Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health involves:
Conducting procedures in accordance with departmental protocols, ensuring exams are completed within designated timeframes.
Performing essential clerical tasks, including utilizing electronic health record systems, managing patient scheduling, and other relevant software.
Executing a variety of intricate technical functions using high-frequency sound waves to identify anatomical irregularities, such as masses and abscesses, in line with established sonographic protocols.
Assisting Radiologists with biopsy procedures and color-flow ultrasound as necessary.
Preparing and organizing medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Preparing patients for diagnostic examinations, providing explanations of procedures, and positioning patients for optimal anatomical views.
Conducting portable breast imaging for emergency and inpatient cases as required.
Responsible for interviewing and discharging patients post-procedure.
Ensuring accurate labeling of specimen containers.
Assessing the technical quality of images.
Obtaining and processing images of pathological conditions in accordance with standard practices.
Maintaining records of ultrasound images, including archiving and de-archiving data as necessary.
Calibrating, cleaning, and performing routine maintenance on equipment to guarantee proper operation.
Sanitizing instruments, supplies, and equipment, and restocking as needed.
Physically capable of lifting a minimum of 25 lbs., pushing and pulling at least 50 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 8 hours daily.
Welcoming patients upon arrival for their examinations, adhering to A.I.D.E.T. standards.
Accountable for scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Willingness to work overtime as required to ensure high-quality patient care.
Recognizing the needs of the patient demographic served, adapting and delivering care tailored to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing, and/or visual impairments). This includes effective communication with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their appropriate level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.)
Complying with policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, Punctuality, and Organizational Competencies.
Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications:
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound Program.
A.R.D.M.S certification.
A minimum of 2 years of training in Allied Health/College.
Certification in Breast Imaging within 6 months of employment.
CPR certification is mandatory.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
At least 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification or Breast Sonography Certification.
Maintains 30 CEU Credits within a three-year period.
Contacts:

Working Conditions:
