Position Summary
The Underwater Operations Supervisor is tasked with the strategic planning and execution of diving initiatives in a safe and effective manner, managing dive teams, preparing proposals, and fostering strong client partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the scheduling and management of all diving assignments within the designated region.
- Facilitate logistics and deployment of diving teams and equipment as required for various projects.
- Implement projects in compliance with client expectations and legal standards, including ADCI regulations and relevant state and federal laws governing commercial diving.
- Collaborate with the Equipment & Facilities Coordinator and Asset Manager to ensure proper maintenance and certification of diving apparatus.
- Guarantee timely and precise submission of daily reports, dive logs, and video documentation from field personnel.
- Work in conjunction with Dive Operations Managers in other areas to address personnel requirements.
- Coordinate with Service Line VPs for staffing needs across multiple projects.
- Provide quarterly updates to the General Manager regarding project safety and financial performance.
- Supervise dive personnel, assigning tasks, establishing objectives, monitoring outcomes, and assessing performance.
- Conduct regular site visits to uphold quality standards and ensure adherence to safe diving protocols.
- Review and submit timecards promptly to payroll.
- Evaluate diver and tender job applicants and make hiring decisions.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels to ensure availability of qualified personnel for both on-call and major projects.
- Monitor diver certifications, ensuring compliance and dispatching only those with current credentials for assigned tasks.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site assessments, preparing responsible bids and proposals.
- Assist other service lines and regions with project proposals and cost estimates as necessary.
- Draft reports, including operational plans, correspondence, and client video presentations.
- Keep track of projects in the bidding phase.
- Identify and cultivate opportunities to promote services to both new and existing clients.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with current customers.
- Communicate effectively with all relevant internal stakeholders prior to crew mobilization to ensure everyone is informed.
- Ensure safe diving practices and actively participate in safety committees.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred.
Commercial Dive Training and ADCI Certification are preferred.
Experience
Preferred candidates will have over 10 years of experience in a commercial diving capacity and at least 5 years in a management or supervisory role.
Experience in logistics and the construction industry is advantageous, with prior diving experience in specific regions being a plus.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities are essential.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external clients is crucial.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is necessary.
Exceptional customer service skills and attention to detail are important.
Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment is required.
Willingness to travel to project sites as needed, including short-term out-of-town assignments.
Strong report writing and proposal drafting skills are necessary.
Existing knowledge of the maritime industry and established relationships in the field are beneficial.
Current understanding of standard diving practices and regulations (ADCI, IMCA) is required.
Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to construction and commercial diving is essential.
Ability to read blueprints and ship drawings is advantageous.
Capability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment is necessary.
Understanding of project management principles, cost estimation, and workforce planning is required.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to perform work in both office and field settings, including on boats and floating platforms.
