Recruitment Overview
The State of Hawaii is seeking a qualified individual for an urgent vacancy in the Department of Transportation - Highways Division.

This role involves the maintenance and repair of various heavy-duty vehicles and construction machinery as a primary responsibility. Additional related tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications Required:
Experience:
Candidates must possess a minimum of FOUR (4) YEARS of progressively responsible experience in automotive repair under a JOURNEY LEVEL MECHANIC. This experience must include at least ONE (1) YEAR focused on heavy vehicle and/or construction equipment repair.

Important Note:
Experience gained from personal vehicle repairs does not qualify.

Physical Requirements:

Applicants should be capable of lifting and/or carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance or equipment (e.g., hoisting devices, hand trucks), with or without reasonable accommodation.

Commercial Driver's License (CDL):
At the time of application, candidates must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), CLASS A with Endorsement N (for tank vehicles with a capacity of 1,000 gallons or more) and must not have restrictions related to codes E (manual transmission), L (air brakes), and O (Class A tractor-trailer combination).

Failure to submit a copy of your CDL at the time of application will result in rejection of your application. A valid out-of-state CDL may also be accepted.

If selected for this position, candidates must convert their out-of-state CDL to a Hawaii-issued CDL before commencing employment. Verification of the Hawaii-issued CDL will be conducted by the hiring agency prior to the start of work.
