Rigging Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Rigging Technician to join our team at Sterett Crane and Rigging in Houston. As a Rigging Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient lifting and moving of heavy equipment and materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Install ground rigging to assist in job completion and align, level, and anchor machinery.
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support heavy equipment.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
  • Drive trucks to worksites and unload trucks.
Requirements:
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA standards in rigging.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and fit for duty test.
Desired:
  • Candidates with previous experience rigging for operating heavy equipment.
  • Prefer candidates with proficient oral and written communication skills, technical skills, and functional skills.
