ShelterCare's Short Term Housing Program is looking for a full-time Housing Support Specialist. This role is pivotal in assisting program participants residing in our shelter units, ensuring that all program activities, policies, and procedures align with our agency's core values and mission. The Housing Support Specialist is classified as a non-exempt position with a starting wage of $22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
ABOUT SHELTERCARE
ShelterCare is a community-focused social services organization led by a board of dedicated volunteers. We operate multiple programs in the Eugene/Springfield area, providing a variety of housing solutions paired with comprehensive support services for families and individuals facing homelessness, those at risk of homelessness, and individuals with serious mental health challenges. QUALIFICATIONS
Required
A degree in social work or a related discipline, or equivalent experience; 1-3 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental health challenges; familiarity with mental health, substance use disorders, and homelessness services; and experience in providing interventions for this demographic.
Essential Skills
Skills in crisis de-escalation; effective communication; negotiation and collaboration; time management; leadership; risk assessment; critical thinking and problem-solving; proficiency in technology for email, spreadsheets, and documentation; ability to manage confidential information; and effective organization and prioritization of tasks.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves sitting for a significant portion of the workday (at least 50% of the time); repetitive motions, including substantial use of wrists, hands, and fingers (computer work). Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as data preparation and analysis, computer terminal viewing, and extensive reading, primarily on a computer screen. Occasional travel may be required for offsite meetings and sessions.
