Job Summary

The Child Development Specialist I plays a vital role in a multi-disciplinary treatment team, providing support and education to children with emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. This position ensures the children's physical and emotional needs are met, and supports their academic learning by enhancing their social, recreational, and behavioral functioning.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the safety of children through supervision and therapeutic techniques, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
  • Provide trauma-informed care and interventions.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate therapeutic groups.
  • Record and document interventions and critical incidents in a timely manner.
  • Assist in planning, supervising, and facilitating daily activities of clients.
  • Maintain safety aspects of the milieu and van.
Requirements
  • High School degree and 4 years of work experience in a related field; Bachelors degree and some experience preferred; or Associates Degree and two years of work experience.
  • Clean and valid driver's license and three consecutive years of driving experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Service License, Medication Administration Certified, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification, American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certified.
  • One to three years of experience in the human service field or working with special needs children.
Working Conditions

The Child Development Specialist I works in a fast-paced environment, interacting with children and families daily. The position requires the ability to manage stress and respond to emergency situations safely and calmly. The successful candidate will be culturally competent to serve a diverse population and possess solid general computer skills.
