Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, which includes direct patient care, patient and family education, and managing transitions of care.
The CNS promotes professional nursing practices across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to address the needs of patients and their families.
Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the CNS is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients.
Professional Standards:
The ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice serve as the foundation for the CNS's practice. The CNS demonstrates leadership through roles such as preceptor, informal and formal leadership positions, and quality improvement initiatives. The CNS delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability. Excellent communication skills, mentorship abilities, and participation in committees or projects are essential.
A subset of employees may need to use their personal vehicle as part of their job responsibilities.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses who began their RN career after a specified date must provide documented evidence of completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing within five years from their RN start date.
Entry-level associate degree registered nurses who started prior to that date must also provide documented evidence of program completion as required at the time of hire.
Preferred qualifications include one year of RN experience in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.
Licensure and Certification:
Current RN license in accordance with state regulations. Basic Life Support (BLS) competency must be maintained through recognized programs such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Positions not located on campus may not require current BLS competency as determined by the work area.
Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training may be required based on the work area.Compensation and Benefits
