Senior Fuel Variance Analyst

The Fuel Variance Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the company's financial stability by accurately developing and maintaining annual resource-related operating budgets, fuel and purchase power projections, and implementing supporting plans to monitor ongoing performance.
This position is responsible for preparing and monitoring the portion of the operating budget associated with all power supply-related costs, which represent over 50% of the company's annual revenue. The Fuel Variance Specialist supports the preparation of power supply-related testimony in various proceedings, including rate cases.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain accurate annual resource-related operating budgets, fuel and purchase power projections, and implement supporting plans to monitor ongoing performance.
- Prepare and monitor the portion of the operating budget associated with all power supply-related costs, which represent over 50% of the company's annual revenue.
- Support the preparation of power supply-related testimony in various proceedings, including rate cases.
- Develop and accurately calculate the monthly Power Supply Charge (PSC) that underpins the collection of approximately $2 billion in annual revenue.
- Prepare month-end accruals for various fuel and purchase power costs and any re-class entries that may be required.
- Ensure that all fuel and purchase power invoices, accruals, and deferrals are correctly recorded in the company's general ledger.
- Work with various groups to ensure that all vendor invoices and accounting entries that impact fuel and purchase power are properly coded.
- Prepare monthly updates of forecasted expenditures for the department and an explanation of expense variances for reporting to the Budgeting and Planning Group.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years' experience in analysis, quantitative analysis, budget management.
- Experience in the development and use of complex spreadsheets is essential.
- Capacity to meet demanding deadlines and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to translate data into meaningful information to manage the business.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative with colleagues at all levels towards mutual objectives.
- Ability to work as an individual contributor and as a team member in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
