At the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, we are committed to developing advanced nuclear propulsion technology and providing technical support to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.

We are seeking a Chemical Engineer to join our Materials Manufacturing area, where you will work on researching and testing nuclear fuel, poison, and cladding materials. This role requires strong collaboration and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.

As a Chemical Engineer at NNL, you will be responsible for planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, manufacturing, and deploying laboratory equipment. You will also develop and fabricate unique materials systems up to and including small-scale production demonstrations.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science-related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in engineering or science-related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD degree in engineering or science-related field
  • Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE

Preferred skills include experience in materials science, ceramic engineering, chemistry, control systems and software engineering, data analytics, statical design of experiments, machine learning, and demonstrated software programming skills in LabVIEW and Python environments.

The salary for this position is estimated to be between $83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually based on candidate experience and qualifications.
