Structural Engineer 4 Job Description

PDS is seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer 4 to lead complex engineering projects and contribute to high-impact designs and developments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform independent design development, analysis, or review tasks across a variety of projects.
  • Complete designs, analyses, or reviews for complex engineering projects.
  • Generate detailed design specifications and ensure compliance with all engineering documentation standards.
  • Provide training and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, logistics, financial, and program management teams to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations, analyze engineering problems, and propose solutions.
  • Prepare and submit technical papers and conduct engineering studies.
  • Ensure the proper preparation, checking, approval, and retention of project calculations and engineering drawings.
  • Lead team members and provide technical or operational guidance to employees, colleagues, and clients.
  • Review interdisciplinary vendor documents and manage planning and scheduling of engineering tasks to meet project milestones and budgets.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and manage project changes effectively.
Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizen (no dual citizenship).
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in structural engineering.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards, including AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, and ACI 318.
  • Proficiency in STAAD.Pro for modeling, analysis, design, and post-processing.
  • Expertise in MathCad, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience writing project specifications.
  • Ability to travel as required for projects.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance, if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred but not required.
  • Experience in government or nuclear projects (DOD, DOE, NR).
  • Knowledge of AISC Seismic Design Provisions (AISC 341) and nuclear facility design codes (ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 43, DOE-STD-1020).
  • Familiarity with seismic response spectrum analysis and ANSYS software.
