  • Safety and Clinical Excellence
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and maintain Magnet status by aligning with the American Nurses Association's standards of practice.
    • Develop and implement an annual Nursing Quality plan to achieve top decile/quartile results for nursing clinical data benchmarked at the national level.
    • Support staff in participation of quality improvement activities and promote evidence-based practice through clinical guidelines, pathways, and policies.
    • Assist and support staff in developing and maintaining competency through orientation, internships, educational offerings, and self-directed learning.
    • Encourage staff to pursue formal education, certification, and professional development opportunities.
    • Foster a climate conducive to educational experiences for associates and students.
    • Contribute to and promote the advancement of nursing theory, professional research, and scholarly activities.
    • Create a non-punitive culture of patient safety and support high-reliability units and Team Member Behaviors.
    • Partner with patient safety to facilitate safe practices through participation in ACA/RCA and nursing peer review.
  • Patient Satisfaction
    • Review patient satisfaction data and assist in creating action plans as needed.
    • Develop and implement a plan of care that fosters a non-discriminatory climate and is culturally sensitive to the patient population.
    • Utilize evidence-based practice to improve care processes, structures, and measurement of client-centered outcomes and satisfaction.

    • Implement strategies to assure that associates understand when and how to implement service recovery and track service recovery issues to reduce their reoccurrence.
    • Achieve goals established by the system and site regarding patient satisfaction.
  • Associate Satisfaction
    • Manage the recruitment and selection of high-quality staff and maintain adequate staffing and appropriate work assignments.
    • Provide supervision of associates and accept accountability for services provided within the department.
    • Consistently round on associates to role model positive behaviors, monitor morale, follow-up on organizational initiatives, reduce barriers between administration and staff, and improve team member retention.
    • Follow established processes for receiving and resolving employee complaints and concerns.
    • Facilitate participation of staff in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision making and support staff involvement in shared governance activities at both the area, house-wide, and system levels.
    • Conduct timely performance reviews of all staff in which peer feedback is a mandatory component of the evaluation process for all associates.
    • Model service and leadership consistent with nursing and organizational strategic goals.
    • Identify and advocate for adequate resources for team members so that desired outcomes are achieved.
    • Monitor team member satisfaction results and create systems to respond to trends.
    • Monitor team member turnover and vacancy and develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Growth
    • Actively participate in hospital committees, meetings, and projects.
    • Network with professionals at other healthcare facilities for clinical standards and innovations.
    • Prepare business plans and financial feasibility studies for special administrative assignments as requested.
    • Partner with local community organizations and schools to attract students to careers in health professions.
    • Research literature, identify best practices, engage physicians in planning activities, and attend specialty workshops to identify future trends in healthcare and opportunities for growth.
  • Financial
    • Participate in budget planning in collaboration with the CNE and advocate for appropriate fiscal and human resources to accomplish the work and goals of the nursing department.
    • Monitor unit productivity levels and workforce design to ensure proper resource utilization and role delineation and identify areas for improved operational efficiency and involve staff in the development of new processes as appropriate.
    • Ensure appropriate use of IS systems to monitor trends and analyze monthly financial, operational, and budget variance reports to assure that financial goals are achieved. Initiate cost containment activities.
  • Physician Partnership
    • Collaborate with physicians and members of other departments and disciplines in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services to meet patient needs.
    • Partner with physicians in the development and enhancement of clinical programs.
Requirements
  • Nurse, Registered (RN)
  • 3-5 years progressive leadership experience
  • Master's degree in nursing
  • Organizational, planning, and delegation skills
  • Team building, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to succeed in a changing environment and handle multiple responsibilities
  • Strong drive to achieve superior results
  • Current RN license in the state of Illinois
  • Specialty certification preferred
