Position Overview:

ROLE SUMMARY:
Oversees the operational support for comprehensive program management and nutritional research initiatives.

Formulates and adheres to research guidelines.

Projects may encompass nutritional evaluations, assessments, the creation of dietary care plans, nutritional guidance, and educational outreach.

Facilitates training and performance assessments for staff.

Assists the director in implementing the operational framework as necessary.

Creates, executes, and sustains standard operating procedures in collaboration with the director, project managers, and team members.

Collaborates with staff to develop educational materials for various initiatives.

Innovates new concepts that advance ongoing research.


Identifies challenges, gathers data, and aids in the preparation and dissemination of scholarly articles, presentations, and posters to share new insights under the guidance of the Director/Principal Investigator.

Serves as a nutritional resource for healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, and patient care committees.

Engages in the formulation of nutrition-focused projects, research, and educational programs.


Participates in grant-supported research initiatives and study execution by collecting and inputting data using validated methodologies with some supervision.


Generates innovative ideas, identifies challenges, and assists in the preparation and dissemination of scholarly articles, presentations, and posters to share new insights and research under the guidance of the Program Director/Principal Investigator.


Under supervision, interacts with study participants throughout various phases of the research process by engaging in participant recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling for study visits.

Implements protocols, conducts dietary assessments, performs metabolic evaluations, and provides nutritional education to patients and providers.

May also oversee and manage the research and metabolic kitchen as assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities:
Manages the administrative, research, and clinical nutrition functions of the bionutrition unit, including the research metabolic kitchen.


Accountable for executing dietary protocols, overseeing the metabolic kitchen, and delivering nutritional care or supervision to study participants.


Oversees the operation of the research metabolic kitchen to ensure precise delivery of diets as specified by research protocols.

Develops and enforces policies and procedures for the bionutrition unit.

Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates kitchen personnel. The co-director may also be involved in this process.

Collaborates with the business manager to project the budget required for personnel, equipment, maintenance, and supplies.

Submits monthly billing to ensure accurate study-related charges.

Prepares activity reports as necessary for annual reviews, site evaluations, grant applications, and renewals.

Participates in planning and roundtable discussions to ensure documentation of bionutrition services.

Evaluates, utilizes, and maintains computer systems for managing food procurement, preparation, and storage.

Research & Clinical Duties:

Collaborates with the study team, including the principal investigator and study coordinator, to plan, organize, execute, and assess the bionutrition services required.

Adheres to study protocols, may conduct nutritional assessments, make dietary recommendations, and document findings appropriately.

May inform study participants about the nutrition-related components of a study and assess compliance with study protocols.

In accordance with study protocols, may collect and analyze nutrition-related data as specified.

May contribute to the publication and presentation of research outcomes.

May develop and implement nutrition research projects alongside the co-director or other research personnel.

Educates providers, students, interns, and support staff in nutrition research design and methodologies.


Establishes, nurtures, and promotes positive interdisciplinary relationships to facilitate the planning and execution of research projects and ensure effective collaboration.

Provides bionutrition services with minimal oversight.


Services include Indirect calorimetry/resting energy expenditure (REE), Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), Bioelectrical impedance (BIA), skinfold and circumference measurements, SubMax (treadmill), Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), feeding study support including meal challenges, meal preparation & distribution, BOD POD (air displacement plethysmograph), and food record and recall nutritional analysis using specialized nutritional software and Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR).

Performs additional responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
These responsibilities are primarily conducted at the research center and medical nutrition therapy programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field OR holds a specialty certification from an accredited nutrition-related area.

Four years of clinical or research nutrition experience. Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.


Initiates and maintains a professional portfolio through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to reflect professional and career aspirations.


Maintains licensure and registration by engaging in continuing education activities, averaging 15 nutrition-related continuing education hours annually.

Licensed as a dietitian in the state of Georgia, or is eligible for licensure.

SERV Safe Food Handler Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

Emory Healthcare credentialing for research will be required once employment commences as directed by leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A culinary degree/certification or culinary experience. Managerial or supervisory experience.

PhD degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.

Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to modify remote work status with notice to the employee.
